Can I temporarily mute captions, subtitles, and dubs on a running Service?

Yes. Learn how to use Mute Outputs to temporarily stop delivering captions, subtitles, and dubbed audio without stopping your Service.

The Mute Outputs feature allows you to temporarily mute captions, subtitles, and dubbed audio for a set duration while your Service continues running. This is useful during breaks, private discussions, or any portion of your stream where you don't want captions or dubs delivered to your viewers.

NOTE: Muting outputs does not stop your Service. The Service remains live and continues to deliver your incoming stream to your selected destination.

IMPORTANT: Muting outputs does not stop billing. The system continues generating captions, subtitles, and dubs at the endpoints while outputs are muted, so your usage continues to accrue. To stop billing, you must stop the incoming stream connecting to the Service. For more information, see Usage and Billing in SyncWords Live

How to Mute Outputs

TIP: The Mute outputs option is only available when your Service is live. If your Service is stopped, this option will not appear in the dropdown.

  1. Navigate to your running Service from the Services page

  2. Click the dropdown arrow next to the Stop Service button in the top right of the page

  3. Select Mute outputs from the dropdown menu

  4. The Mute outputs modal will appear, displaying your Service ID and name

  5. Set the Duration using the numeric field or slider. The default is 3 hours, with a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 1440 minutes (24 hours).

  6. Click Mute outputs to confirm, or click Cancel to exit without muting.

Once muted, captions, subtitles, and dubbed audio will remain muted until the duration expires or you unmute them manually.

Confirming Outputs Are Muted

After muting, a Muted outputs indicator will appear next to the Service status in the top right of the page. This indicator remains visible for as long as your outputs are muted.

NOTES:

  • Outputs will automatically unmute when the duration you set expires. You do not need to manually unmute unless you want to resume outputs earlier.

  • Muting outputs affects all captions, subtitles, and dubbed audio tracks across all configured outputs and destinations, including all pages and widgets generated through the API.

For more information on generating these pages, see How to get caption and dubbed pages for services using the API.

How to Unmute Outputs

You can unmute your outputs at any time before the duration expires.

  1. Click the Muted outputs button next to the Service status

  2. A confirmation modal will appear asking "Are you sure you want to unmute outputs?"

  3. Click Unmute outputs to resume delivering captions, subtitles, and dubbed audio, or click Cancel to keep them muted

Once unmuted, the Muted outputs indicator will disappear and your outputs will resume immediately.
