# Can I update a dictionary without interrupting my live stream?

## Yes. Learn how to use Apply Updates to push configuration changes to a running Service without stopping the stream.

The **Apply Updates** feature allows you to apply a new or updated dictionary to a Service that is already live. Your stream continues uninterrupted while the changes take effect, so you can correct terminology mid-event without stopping and restarting the Service.

**NOTE:** The **Apply Updates** option is only available when your Service is live. If your Service is stopped, this option will not appear in the dropdown.

 

**WARNING: Apply Updates** currently supports dictionaries only. Using it when making other configuration changes may break the service. Please stop and restart the Service to have non-dictionary changes take effect.

 

### How to Apply a Dictionary Update to a Running Service

1. Create or update your dictionary. For instructions, see [How to create a dictionary](https://help.syncwords.com/live/how-to-create-a-dictionary?hsLang=en).
2. Navigate to your running Service and open the [**Transcription**](https://help.syncwords.com/live/how-do-i-enable-transcription-for-my-service-using-the-new-ui-step-3-transcription?hsLang=en) section.
3. Select your new or updated dictionary from the Dictionary dropdown.

4. Click **Save Changes** to save the Transcription settings.
5. An **Upgrade Available** notification will appear on the Service Overview page, indicating that the Service configuration has been updated.

6. Click the dropdown arrow next to the Stop Service button in the top right of the page.
7. Select **Apply Updates** from the dropdown menu.

Your updated dictionary will be applied to the running Service, and new transcription output will reflect the changes.

**NOTE:** Dictionary changes apply to transcription going forward. Captions already delivered before the update will not be retroactively corrected.
