The Soniox transcription language setting determines which languages are transcribed for original-language captions. When configuring Soniox, you can select a specific language or choose **Multilingual**, depending on the languages spoken in your source audio and the captions you want to deliver. **IMPORTANT CHANGE:** Selecting a specific language now restricts original-language caption output to that language. To recognize and deliver captions in multiple languages, select **Multilingual**. In **Step 3: Transcription**, select Automated (AI) as the Transcription Type. 2. Under **Source Language**, select a specific language or Multilingual. 3. Under **Speech Engine**, select **Soniox**. 4. Click **Continue** to save your settings and move to the next step. **Source Language:** Select the language spoken in your source. You can choose between a [specific language](https://help.syncwords.com/live/soniox-transcription-choosing-between-a-specific-language-and-multilingual-captions#Specific-Language) or [Multilingual](https://help.syncwords.com/live/soniox-transcription-choosing-between-a-specific-language-and-multilingual-captions#Multilingual). ### Choosing a Transcription Language #### **Specific language** Select a specific language when you want original-language captions only for speech in that language. For example, if Soniox is configured for Greek: - Greek speech produces Greek captions. - Speech in other languages does not produce original-language captions. Other output, such as translated subtitles or dubbed audio, depends on your translation configuration. #### Multilingual Select **Multilingual** when your source audio contains speakers using different languages and you want original-language captions for the languages Soniox recognizes. For example, with Multilingual selected: - Greek speech can produce Greek captions. - English speech can produce English captions. - French speech can produce French captions. The detected language determines the language of the original captions. #### Configuration Examples | Soniox Transcription Setting | Greek Speaker | English Speaker | French Speaker | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Greek | Greek captions | No original captions | No original captions | | English | No original captions | English captions | No original captions | | French | No original captions | No original captions | French captions | | Multilingual | Greek captions | English captions | French captions | These examples describe original-language caption output. Translated subtitles and dubbed audio are configured separately. #### Which Setting Should I Use? Choose a **specific language** when you want captions restricted to one language. Choose **Multilingual** when you need original-language captions for speakers using multiple languages in the same source audio. #### Important Notes - Selecting a specific language no longer provides original-language captions for speech in other languages. - Multilingual allows Soniox to recognize and transcribe multiple languages; the languages captioned depend on what is detected in the audio. - The transcription setting controls original-language captions.
