Transcript export formats and timecode options
Choose the right file format and timecode setting so your exported captions line up with your recording.
File Formats
| Format | Best for | Timecodes |
| SRT | Video players, YouTube, most editing tools | Yes |
| VTT | Web players and HTML5 video | Yes |
| DFXP | Broadcast and professional video platforms | Yes |
| TXT | Reading, sharing or editing the plain transcript | No |
TIP: When you select TXT, the Timecodes option is turned off because plain text files do not contain timecodes.
Timecode Options
The Timecodes setting decides which moment counts as 00:00:00 in your file. Pick the option that matches the start of the video you will pair the captions with.
Offset From Start Time (default): Timecodes start at 00:00:00 at the beginning of your selected time range. Use this when your recording starts at the same moment as your export range.
Offset From Timestamp: Timecodes are calculated from a date and time you choose. When you select this option, an "Offset Time" field appears, prefilled with the start of your time range. Use this when your recording started before or after the export range, for example when you export one hour from the middle of a longer recording.
Start at 00:00:00: Timecodes begin at 00:00:00 with the first caption in the file.
Example
Your recording starts at 10:00. You export captions from 10:30 to 11:00.
- With Offset From Start Time, the first caption is at about 00:00:00, because 10:30 counts as zero.
- With Offset From Timestamp set to 10:00, the first caption is at about 00:30:00, matching its position in the full recording
NOTE: All exports use the time range in UTC. The Create Export dialog lets you pick times in your local time zone and shows the UTC equivalent under the picker.
